The Text Editor is a tool for adding and editing text, adding Global Data tags, HTML heading tags (h1, h2, etc.), adding tables and changing text styling.
The Text Editor appears at the top of your the Text module you are editing.
Please Note: Text Editor update June 2024
Before June 2024, the Text Editor toolbar was positioned at the top of the screen. Following the June 2024 update, the toolbar has been repositioned and is now conveniently located near the text module you’re working on.
Text design
Apply different predefined text styles using the Text Editor's Design dropdown:
- Highlight your text
- Click the arrow in the design dropdown on the left of the ribbon. If no style is selected, it will say NONE
- Select the preferred text style from the dropdown list.
You have the following eight predefined text styles, both in light and dark:
- Spot text
- Small spot text
- Headline
- Subtitle
- Small subtitle
- Preamble
- Body text
- Small text
You can modify the predefined styling of these text styles in Global Styling. Read this article to learn more about working with text styles.
Change font family for your entire website
Font family is a crucial design choice as it impacts the layout for your entire website. You change the font family for your whole website in Global Design > Global texts > General text > select your preferred font family.
Edit H-tags for search optimisation
On the left side of the Text Editor ribbon, to the right of the design dropdown, you can see the H-tag (HTML heading Tags) dropdown.
H-tags help search engines read and prioritize text on your website:
- The H tags range from H1-H6 and indicate the importance and type of your content.
- H1 indicates your main title
- H2 your headers
- H3 indicates your subtitles
- H4 to H6 indicate subtitles in descending order, following the same logic as above
- P means that the text is a paragraph.
Use H1-H6 for different types of headings and P for all body text on your website.
How to use H tags
H tags help search engines prioritize your content. H1 defines the most important heading and H6 defines the least important heading on your page. You should only use one H1 tag per page, usually applied to the largest headline. You can include several H2-H6 tags on your page. Please note that these rules apply on a page level and not your entire website.
Local design options
Font family, font size, font weight, letter spacing and Paragraph height
Under the three dots, you can choose Font Family, Font Weight, Font Size, Letter Spacing, and Paragraph Height. Use these options to edit the design of a specific piece of text locally.
If you use this option, you only update the specific text module you are currently editing. To edit all similar text styles across the page, you should instead update your predefined text styles as described under Text design at the beginning of this article.
Bold, italics and underline
Apply bold, italic and underline style to your text locally under this option in the ribbon.
Text color
Want to change the text color of one specific line or word? You can do so by clicking the circle shaped Color icon in the ribbon.
Here you can choose from your Global Colors, but you can also pick a new color by inserting a Hex code, or dragging the color picker.
Clear formatting
Use this option to clear all formatting. Simply highlight the text and click the rubber icon in the menu.
Text alignment
Change the positioning of your text by using left, right, centre align or justify.
Add Global Content Tag
Use the globe icon to add a Global Content tag to your text, such as company description, name, phone number, or address. This allows you to update the information across the entire website efficiently. For example, if you tag the company phone number and it changes later, you only need to update it under Global Data, and it will automatically update everywhere the tag is used.
To add a piece of Global Data, such as your company name or address:
- Click on the globe icon
- Select Insert and an overlay will appear
- Click on the Add Global Data dropdown to select the Global Data item you want to include.
- Click on Insert to add the content to your text.
Global Data behavior
Using Global Data is the best way of adding business-specific content to your website as it's easy and quick to change. When using a Global Data item in the Text module, the content will automatically change once you update your business information in Global Data. This means that you only ever need to change your information in one place. Read more about Global Data tags here.
Add and remove links
Add a link to your text by clicking on the paper clip icon in the Text Editor. Click on Link to open the link interface where you add/change and set the behavior of your link. You can link to an external URL, an internal page, an email or a file for download. Select the preferred link type from the dropdown.
Enabling the option Open link in new tab will open your linked content in a new browser tab when clicked. Activate Set 'nofollow' property if you don't want search engines to follow the hyperlink. When this setting is enabled, your link will not affect the target's search engine ranking.
Remove a link from your text by highlighting the linked text, click the paper clip icon and selecting Unlink.
