Navigating the new module editing layers

As of November 2024, we have updated the Module editing layers to make them more user-friendly and modern.

One of the first things you may notice is the cleaner, less cluttered layout, with more settings organized under clearly labeled headings. This improvement enhances the hierarchy, making it easier to find and access the tools you need.

We've introduced a modest yet impactful design update that aligns with enhancements across other areas of the editor. This ensures a cohesive and unified design language throughout the platform, creating a smoother and more intuitive experience for users.

Let's take a look at how this structure works.

The new menu sections
The menu headings let you know which part of the module you are editing. This lets you very easily go straight to the type of thing you want to edit.

Let's take a button module as an example. Once you click to edit the button, you get three options:

  1. Content: Content includes the actual content that goes into the button, for example link and button text
  2. Local Design: Local Design includes all of the design options for this specific button. Under Local Design, you also have the option to open the Global Design menu.
  3. Settings: Here you can edit non-design related settings for the module.

For other types of options, such as the Text Module, you go straight to the Local Design menu as the content is not changed in the overlay, and there are no non-design related settings.

The overlay placement
The overlay automatically pops up on the right side. This allows you to better keep the website you are working on within view. However, you can easily drag the overlay around if needed.

Why were these changes made?

Accessibility and user-friendliness was the focus of the UX changes. The menu hierarchy now aligns with industry-standard logic, ensuring users can easily find the tools they need.

Font and icon colors now feature stronger contrast, improving readability and just simply making it easier on the eye and making navigating the interface so much more comfortable. Shapes and icons have been updated with softer, curved edges, providing a modern aesthetic. These subtle touches make the interface feel more welcoming and pleasant to use.
